The gods of the heavens and earth wage war in IMMORTAL FIRE, epic conclusion to the romantic fantasy Red Winter.

Once, Emi believed the heavenly gods were righteous and wise, while the earthly yokai spirits were bloodthirsty and evil. But with a traitorous deity poised to destroy her world, and the yokai standing as humanity’s only defense, the lies of her upbringing have toppled to reveal a far more terrifying reality.

Despite the looming threat, Emi can’t escape her greatest distraction: Shiro, the fox yokai who has so deftly claimed her heart for his own. Soon—too soon—she will have to break the curse that binds his magic and memories. And once the ancient power inside him awakens, the yokai she loves will be changed forever.

As the earthly gods gather to wage war against the heavens, Emi and Shiro must gamble everything to turn the tide against their immortal, all-powerful foes. Together, they will find a way to save her world—even if it means losing each other.

From award-winning author E. J. Mellow comes an action romance dripping with vengeful delight.

Losing his entire family in the span of a year, Carter Smith left his ability to love buried deep in their graves. His only concerns now are completing his missions and effortlessly charming the next temptress to warm his bed.

The key to his accomplishments? Working alone mixed with a Casanova smile.

But when a deadly weapon needs to be stopped from falling into the wrong hands, the lone wolves find themselves thrown into an explosive partnership. Can Carter and 3 lower their guns aimed at one another long enough to succeed, or will their unwillingness to compromise end up destroying more than their perfect records? Whatever their differences, both agree on one thing—in the game of lies and deceit, the line between friend and foe is often blurred by blood splatter.

Review: How To Be Someone Else by Rachel Del

My Rating: 3 stars

Goodreads | Amazon

Goodreads Summary:

Sometimes it is the one who knows you best who can love you best.

Penny has lived her life letting others take the reins, leaving her to simply follow in line. After completing her senior year of College she’ll join her father’s marketing firm, get married and start a family.

When her parents drop a bomb on her — that they are getting divorced — Penny decides it’s time to start living by her own rules. And when she meets mysterious P.J. Hawthorne, a published writer who seems to know much more about Penny than she lets on, she knows this is her chance to finally get her life moving in the right direction.

But as questions about her new life overwhelm her, so do thoughts of sweet and gorgeous Alex — who just so happens to be her best friend.

What follows is a series of poor decisions, each one more worrisome than the last, forcing Penny further and further away from not only Alex, but from becoming the woman she’s sure she’s meant to be.

I think HTBSE started off pretty good. Penny, who’s life gets turned upside down when her parents split and is left to question herself and her choices, explores what life has to offer by changing from boring Penny to fun Penny with the help of her best friend Alex–which she claims will help with her writing. She leaves behind the vanilla life for a moose tracks one.8021448469_0628a051c2_b

Penny is a good girl compared to her friends, and when she decides that she wants to live a more exciting life, she makes some poor decisions that leads to pushing Alex away. Somewhere along the line, she meets PJ, an author who helps Penny write her novel.

giphyThe times that Penny made bad choices and kept pushing Alex away, I seriously just wanted to tell her, “what is wrong with you?!” I was getting quite frustrated with her, but thankfully Alex’s chapters and the ending scenes did make up for the distress.

Speaking of Alex, he is such a great guy. I mean he loves Penny so much he is willing to do anything for her. He is so devoted to her, that even if they are best friends, crossing that line between friends and more than friends could be okay with them.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that I did not see anything coming when it came to PJ. She was the least interesting character for me, but the way things ended with her, I was not prepared. She ended up being quite the key character.

Tying all of this together, I fairly enjoyed reading HTBSE and would recommend this book to other readers interested in a new adult novel about one’s journey to self discovery, with a side of romance;)

Review: Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon

Gilt Hollow

By: Lorie Langdon
Published: September 27, 2016 by Blink
Goodreads | Amazon

Willow Lamott’s best friend is a murderer, and no one in the small town of Gilt Hollow will let her forget it. For four long years, she’s tried to fade into the background—but none of that matters when Ashton Keller comes striding into school, fresh out of juvie and fueled by revenge. The moment their eyes meet, Willow no longer feels invisible. Drawn to the vulnerability behind Ashton’s mask of rage, she sinks deeper into his sinister world and begins to question whether he’s a villain, a savior, or both.
Ashton thought he wanted vengeance, until Willow reminded him what he’d been missing. Now he longs to clear his name and become the person she sees in him. But the closer they get to uncovering the truth, the darker the secrets become, and Ashton fears his return to Gilt Hollow will destroy everyone he loves, especially the girl he left behind.

My Thoughts

Gilt Hollow is set in a small town and tells the story about Willow and her best friend Ashton, who was convicted of a crime that he did not do. When he comes back to Gilt Hollow after being released from 4 years of juvie, the past comes back to the present, and Wil and Ash find their way back to each other and try to solve the mystery as more secrets surface.

I absolutely adored reading this one. It has mystery, suspense, just the right amount of romance in between, and the small town atmosphere that only makes a mystery story better. I thought the mystery was well written out in terms of suspense. When the actual mystery was solved, I was expecting it to be something bigger. In the end, the mystery was the kind where one thing led to another and it became a bigger thing than it actually needed to be.

I really liked Ms. Langdon’s style of writing. She adds enough detail to the descriptions to let the readers picture the scene perfectly. The dialogues were also realistically well written.

The overall message, in my opinion, was well delivered. The book told a story about forgiveness, despite whatever happened in the past. It showed that not everyone is who they seem, and love can conquer just about anything.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading Gilt Hollow and would definitely read it again. I would recommend this book to romance/mystery/YA novel lovers, and anyone who would give a time of their day to read a good book.

A Double Shot of Bourbon (Bourbon Series #2)

By: A.C. Land
Published: October 18, 2016
Goodreads | Amazon

Lonna Stuart is proud to be the most beautiful girl most people have ever seen. But on the inside she’s dying. Her mother’s grating comments and her boyfriend’s obsessive control are suffocating her.

There’s only one person who sees the real Lonna.

Son of the infamous Bourbon Butcher, Collin toes an invisible line of perfection; he’s a football prodigy; a hard working employee; and, what Lonna’s boyfriend considers, a retard. A slight stutter keeps Collin back from making too many friends, but he observes better than anyone, and he sees things most people miss. He sees the pain in Lonna’s eyes and the sadness in her frown. When she nearly drowns, Collin’s the only one willing to sacrifice himself to save her.

Inspired by Collin’s overwhelming kindness and drawn to the sheer greatness of him, Lonna begins to pull away from her asphyxiating life. But unbeknownst to both of them, Collin’s father, busy planning an epic escape from prison.

About the Author

Displaying AC_.jpgAuthor of the Bourbon series, A. C. Land has been a lover of stories since she first read about Peter Pan giving Wendy an acorn and teaching her to fly. She always dreamed of telling big stories about small towns.
Residing on a cattle farm in Missouri, A. C. loves playing with her rambunctious Jack Russell, Riley, making decorative cakes, taking pictures, drinking pumpkin spice coffee, and hanging out with her nephews.

My Thoughts

A Double Shot is the second book to A Shot of Bourbon by A.C. Land, and I positively enjoyed reading it. The second book continues the story from Collin and Lonna’s POV whereas the first book was from Luke and Charli’s. I like the different perspectives the reader gets to experience. We get to see two people’s POV in one book and the other is the other two characters POV. It provides alot more background info for each character and that was one of the things I liked about the books.

I loved seeing what kind of character Collin really was after reading about Luke and Charli, because Collin is this kind, really handsome looking good deed guy who has a slight stutter when he speaks. He is the opposite of Luke and it just was refreshing to read about a good guy who is not rich and took things for granted. Same goes for Lonna. She is Charli’s bff and where Charli is a very cute and naive little one, Lonna is much more mature and thoughtful when it comes to thinking deeper. Both characters balance each other and the other characters out and I thought that was nicely done.

I give this book 3.5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves a good contemporary YA romance.
